Six By Nico
Edinburgh

Location: EDINBURGH
Sector: HOSPITALITY
Concept: A DRAGONFLY'S JOURNEY THROUGH EDINBURGH

BRIEF

To create a secondary restaurant in Edinburgh for the brand, situated in one building as a dual concept alongside the client’s new, immersive bar concept; Somewhere By Nico. The interior must deliver the new design identity, created by Studio Two, and overlay details inspired by a locational concept.

CONCEPT

The core design concept for Six By Nico evolved by looking at a six legged dragonfly, honing in on characteristics of their body form, colour and natural habitat. This was then layered with a sub concept as the dragonfly makes its journey to the next city – Edinburgh.

Inspired by the iconic landmark of the city, Edinburgh castle formed the route of the locational concept and the craggy hill on which it sits. Edinburgh’s traditional and refined architecture is juxtaposed against the harsh volcanic formation that towers over it, which has formed the design thinking for details within the space.

DESIGN

A curved timber ceiling detail flows through out the space inspired by the contours of Edinburgh’s landscape. Arched displays feature amber onyx back lit panels reminiscent of the lava that formed castle rock. Earthy tones of green and brown celebrate Edinburgh’s beautiful parks and gardens, whilst the city’s vaulted arches are mirrored in joinery details. The stepped elements seen subtly throughout the space pay homage to Edinburgh castle as it looks proudly down over the iconic city.
