BRIEF
To create a new Six By Nico restaurant situated on the outskirts of Cabots Circus shopping centre, Bristol. The unit was received as a concrete shell, so full fit-out works were required alongside all new services. We were briefed to deliver a restaurant that tapped into Bristol’s vibrancy whilst ensuring the new design identity, created by Studio Two, was captured.
CONCEPT
The core design concept for Six By Nico evolved by looking at a six legged dragonfly, honing in on characteristics of their body form, colour and natural habitat. This was then layered with a sub concept as the dragonfly makes its journey to the next city – Bristol.
Inspired by the Italian explorer that the shopping centre was named after, John Cabot was a key influence in the locational concept we overlayed into the design. Delving into his venetian heritage, we took inspiration from the city of Venice and the beautiful Italian palazzos and courtyards that line the waterways.
DESIGN
The design uses a palette of soft greens and blues inspired by the waterways of Venice. Stand out features such as the heavily embellished ceiling throughout also tie into to the waterway concept using a silk vinyl wallpaper with metallic, water-like movement. Arches inspired by Italian structures have been formed in the dining space and line the rear wall to create unique seating styles for guests. A bespoke, Italian inspired wallpaper has been curated by Studio Two and wraps the walls within the arched formations to create impact and depth to the space. The space was designed so the theatre kitchen and bar were positioned opposite each other, creating a dynamic and engaging restaurant space in the middle of the two entities, further creating the immersive buzz in the heart of the site.
