SIX BY NICO - MERCHANT CITY

Location: Merchant City Glasgow
Sector: Hospitality
Concept: A DRAGONFLY'S JOURNEY THROUGH MERCHANT CITY

BRIEF

To create Nico’s third venue in the brand’s home town of Glasgow, adding to an exciting and ever evolving repertoire of restaurants. The interior must deliver the new design identity, created by Studio Two, and overlay details inspired by a locational concept.

CONCEPT

The core design concept for Six By Nico evolved by looking at a six legged dragonfly, honing in on characteristics of their body form, colour and natural habitat. This was then layered with a sub concept as the dragonfly makes its journey to the next city – Glasgow, Merchant City.

The 1700’s saw Glasgow as the unrivalled trading centre of Britain, monopolising the trade in tobacco, salt and sugar. Merchant city was home to the wealthy Tobacco lords and an earthy colour palette inspired by the Tobacco leaf was the beginning of the concept.

DESIGN

The warming notes found in perfumes such as Tom Ford’s “Tobacco Vanille” have enveloping and cocooning properties that are mirrored in the seating details. The bespoke wallpapered ceiling creates a theatrical moody atmosphere and joinery pieces are reminiscent of old smoking lounges. A deep cognac toned velvet curtain over the bar further adds to the drama and intrigue of the interior.
